Paradise Street by Constance Congdon

Ms. Congdon has been called "one of the best playwrights our country and our language has ever produced" (Tony Kushner). She has had hundreds of productions staged around the world, most notably TALES OF THE LOST FORMICANS and NO MERCY. Her most recent original work tackles difficult topics with sharp wit and deep compassion, invariably features strong female central characters and was called “brilliant” in a 2003 Village Voice survey of artistic directors (“The Best Scripts Not Yet Mounted on a New York Stage”). PARADISE STREET, which wrestles with important questions of class and gender in this country, and which features an entirely female cast, has been developed in the last 4 years at the New York Theatre Workshop (with a staged reading starring Olympia Dukakis and a host of other incredible NY actors) and at Portland Center Stage…and until now has not been fully mounted/produced.

Variety: "strong and amusing performances", "this new company shows promise" LA Weekly: "we're hooked by the premise, and by director Courtney Munch's great ensemble"
